What a fun read! I had a lot of trouble putting this book down. Jade was an enjoyable protagonist who discovered her life was far more interesting than she'd ever imagined. I was immediately pulled into the action, and I couldn't wait to see where this adventure led me next.

The creative world of Elyndia is filled with fascinating characters, fantastical creatures, and unusual landscape. Surprises erupted throughout. I loved how the story didn't follow a typical fantasy pattern and mirrored life with twists and turns that couldn't be predicted.

A great start to a series. Looking forward to the next adventure the The Legends of Elyndia

Awakened The Legends Of Elyndia Kriston Johnson 9781484087107 Books Reviews

An interesting tale woven with mystery, magic and romance. This was a difficult book for me to review for multiple reasons. It had a strong intro which kept me reading but there was something story wise that threw me off. Some of the pros include Characters. I really enjoyed the characters in this book. While there is some otherworldly stuff going on the reactions and actions of each character are completely believable.

Storyline. The storyline of this book is initially what drew me in and made me want to read this title. It a unique one taking place in multiple dimensions.

Magic. I’m a sucker for books with magic in it, especially ones that I feel are done right. What I mean by done right is simple, the magic in that book has to mesh with the story and basically become the glue that holds everything together.

Romance. What kind of reviewer would I be to you guys if I didn’t mention the romance in the book. This one is sure to give you a case of the giggles and make you giddy with anticipation. Also the progression is pretty realistic. You don’t have 2 characters that know nothing about one another falling into insta-love. There is some major developments and a decent time frame.

And I really enjoyed the ending of the story.

Some of the cons are the inconsistencies. There are some elements in this book that contradict one another and while I would love to discuss them in depth with you all, I can’t as it would give away some major plot points.

Story Composition. The flow of the story seemed to drag along with some other points that I couldn’t quite pin downs. It the way its put together that gets you.

Predictability. There is a lot and I do mean a lot of predictability in this book awhile I’m ok with some predictability I don’t like knowing how the story is going to turn out before I get to the end. It takes away from the magic of the story, that magic that captivates you and submerges you into a world unlike our own.

But all in all it’s a pretty solid story once you get past the minor set backs that I encountered. Personally, the cons are not enough to deter me from indulging in the next book.

“I received a free copy of the book from the author/publisher for my honest opinion. I was in no way compensated for this review and all opinions are expressly my own.”
As a girl who can see demons, Jade is an outcast among her peers. One day, she discovers why. In an attack on her grandfather’s home, she is whisked away to the realm of Elyndia where magic and evil await.

I loved the premise for this story. There is a lot of originality here, and the world is developed nicely. There are some interesting rock creatures (which I would have like seeing more of), as well as giant spiders and all manner of fae. There are also elves, and their reasons for staying mostly in their own realm is nicely explained. There are still a few unanswered questions, giving just enough incentive to look for book two.

I’m not a fan of most books featuring angels and demons. This one, however, only uses demons as servants of evil, and the angels are long gone. It didn’t fall into any noticeable Christian themes, and I commend the author for that. Jade has been taken from this world and placed in a world where there shouldn’t be too many similarities to our own. I appreciated that she made these creatures in her own style, rather than giving us a rundown of the Bible for a backstory.

Jade is a fascinating character. She doesn’t suffer much from the “damsel in distress” syndrome. She learns to fight and takes her destiny in stride. Of course she has help along the way, but fantasy books are always better with a few awesome sidekicks. The only stain on her character is the tired old song and dance romance that inevitably develops between her and Gabriel. I liked him at first, but late in the story he turns into a whiny, jealous brat. I get so tired of a girl falling for her rescuer, and he’s been in love with her all along. I would have loved to see something new, even if it was off the wall. Maybe she falls in love with a flying half-dragon man. Anything is better than that same old love story. This book would have been better without it in this reviewer’s opinion. Everything else struck me as original and imaginative. The old “I love you, but now I’m mad at you” part needs to go as well. Too many times that appears in an adventure story, and I’m sick of it. I feared it would happen, and it did. That is the only part of this book that I did not enjoy, and I really wish it wasn’t in there.

I loved seeing Jade finally able to tap into her magic and control her element. The magic was nicely done throughout this story, and it made for a spectacular (but open) ending. The history presented for the elementals was nice, and I wouldn’t mind reading more of the history of Elyndia. The revelations about Jade’s parents were a bit predictable, but they were still intriguing. I was happy with the outcome there. The ending leaves quite a bit of room for more, and I look forward to seeing how things will play out.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
